This blog is for my friends and family, and any one else whose interested, to follow my adventures teaching English in China. I'll be spending December 2009 to November 2010 in Ningbo, China riding out the recession and avoiding real responsibilities. This seems like the best way to chronicle this time in my life for future reference as well as giving me a forum to sound off about current event, television, movies etc.
So that's why I'm doing this, here's a brief intro for any interested. My home is Buffalo New York where I studied medical anthropology and public health in college and grad school. I'm most interested in infectious disease like Malaria, TB and HIV in the developing world. Special bonus point are available for my anthro buddies who can guess whom my blog title is referencing.
I've been a line cook for many years, most recently mastering the art of BBQ. I have strong opinions about politics and spend far to many hours a day reading lefty blogs. I enjoy watching Football and Hockey, despite a complete lack of athletic ability, no matter how appallingly badly the Bills play. I'm trying to get into Basketball since that's China's national past time, but it isn't really going to well so far. Besides anthro, my greatest passion is a good tv show. By far the easiest way to my heart is to ask me what I think about Don Drapers existential dilemma. Depending on how ambitious I get I might post reviews or deconstructions of some of my favorites. Breaking Bad starts up again in a few months so maybe I'll wait for that.
I can't guarantee I'll be doing this regularly as I have never blogged before and don't know how I'll take to it. While I wouldn't call myself a lazy man, I am unambitious and lack self direction so we shall see how this all works out.
